Went to a meeting at the local CTC school. They want to become an Academy. It seems the outer catchment area was an agreement between the school and the Secretary of State back in 1991.
They have agreed to look at the admission policy as some local people believe that they are not given the same opportunities as others. For example, a child living near the City Academy can apply there and to our local school. The City Academy has a radial catchment area which excludes children from outside of it. ie the children who live near Bacons College.

Secondary School Transfer

I have just seen a note about a meeting at our local secondary school. They have an outer catchment area of 8 miles. How can they justify that? They say they are going to keep the 45 places for this outer catchment area that extends from about 2 miles from the school to eight. So much for reducing travelling and carbon emmissions. I counted between 8 and 10 cars a minute approaching the school with school children.
Surely, our education system should lead by example!

Secondary School Transfer

Well we had some great news on Friday 23 March. Our daughter has now been offered a place at the local school. So, we are over the moon. Our daughter is now very excited at the prospect of going to her first choice school.
This is great news for us but I cannot help feeling a degree of sympathy with parents and children who did not get an appropriate school.
